Sleeping Beauty

This film is one of the most beautiful exercises in restraint I have ever seen. A true intrigue. It is clear that the filmmaker, Julia Leigh, is a contemporary fiction writer. The way she fucks narrative sideways is often inspiring. The cinematography, set design, and costume design are impeccable. It appears that many viewers were unsatisfied with this film. They wanted to know Lucy, but to me it seems that would fundamentally alter both the central themes and overall aesthetic if we did know her the way we expect to know lead characters. This was unique.
